About Mizan
Mizan is a free Muslim companion app, with no ads and no account: prayer times, a Qibla compass, the full Quran with bundled English and Turkish translations, eleven reciters, a Hijri calendar, and a thoughtful memorization mode. Built for iOS 17 and up.
Common questions
Prayer times look wrong.
Make sure Mizan has location permission (Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Mizan), then check the calculation method in the app's settings. Different communities use different methods (MWL, ISNA, Egyptian, Diyanet, etc.), pick the one your local mosque follows.
Qibla compass is jumping around.
The iPhone's magnetometer is sensitive to metal and electronics. Step away from your laptop, your car, your bedframe, anything magnetic. Calibrate by moving the phone in a figure-8. The small TRUE / MAG badge on the dial tells you whether the phone currently has a true-north reading or is falling back to magnetic north; a fresh location fix usually brings TRUE back.
Audio won't play / keeps buffering.
Recitation streams from public Quran-audio archives (everyayah.com, with mp3quran.net for a few recitations). If your network is slow, tap the reciter title in the audio bar and use the download button next to a reciter (or Download all voices) to keep them for offline playback. Once downloaded, playback is instant and works in airplane mode.
The Quran reader felt laggy on an older iPhone.
Long surahs (like Al-Baqarah) do more work on first open. If lag persists, turn off the harakat-tinting toggle under Settings → Appearance; it colors every Arabic vowel mark and is the heaviest visual feature.
A translation looks wrong.
Mizan ships two translations for offline use: Pickthall (English) and a Turkish meal after Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır. Others (Saheeh International, Yusuf Ali, Diyanet İşleri and more) download from api.alquran.cloud when you pick them. No translation is perfect. If you spot a mismatch with the Arabic, send a note to the address below with the surah and ayah number; it helps everyone.

Mizan stays free
No ads, no account, no data collection by us of any kind, and it will stay that way. You never have to give anything. If you would like to, any amount helps keep the work going, and I am grateful for it.
